Lower East Side

The Lower East Side is an extremely diverse neighborhood in the downtown area of Manhattan. The Lower East Side is home to every profession in the book from interior decorators and designers, to lawyers to musicians and artists in every imaginable ethnic group. The Lower East Side resembles the United Nations more so than any other area in Manhattan. Old bicycle and shoe repair shops share the same streets as high end boutiques and galleries. There is something for everybody in this friendliest of friendly neighborhoods.

The Lower East Side is bounded by Houston Street, the East River, and FDR Drive. Constantly reinventing itself, the Lower East Side, has undergone a major renaissance for the better. Though still sometimes seen as dingy, it is now much safer and cleaner than it has ever been, and the meshing of the old and new can be a captivating scene. Though there are some new luxury buildings in the area, traditional low rises and lofts define the Lower East Side. It is no surprise that prices have increased and more trendy shops and restaurants have emerged, but the Lower East Side is still reasonably inexpensive and great for young professionals taking their first apartment.
